MADISON — Memorial services for Courtney Adele Schloemer, 39, who died Tuesday, March 6, 2012, surrounded by her family at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, were 4 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2012, at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church in Madison.
Arrangements were under the direction of Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland.
Courtney was born Aug. 9, 1972, in Cheyenne, Wyo., the daughter of Brack and Kay Junkin Schloemer. A longtime resident of the Jackson area, she graduated with honors from St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in 1990. A National Merit Scholar, she attended the University of Alabama on a Presidential Scholarship, earning a bachelor of arts in advertising (1994) and a juris doctorate from the School of Law (1997.)
Courtney began her career as a prosecutor with the St. Claire County District Attorney’s Office in Alabama. She later became an assistant district attorney for Mobile County before returning to Mississippi. She worked at Forman Perry as a mass tort litigator before accepting her current position with the Mississippi Office of Attorney General. As a special assistant attorney general, she worked with the Public Integrity Division-Insurance Fraud and as counsel for the Department of Human Services. Courtney was a member of the Mississippi, Alabama and Texas bar associations as well as a number of federal courts. An accomplished pianist, Courtney studied with Annette Joe of the Briarwood Studio in high school, where she served as staff assistant her senior year. She received a number of awards and scholarships in statewide competitions.
Courtney’s joys were her niece, Julia, her family and friends, her basset hounds and her Alabama Crimson Tide. She was deeply loved and will be remembered for her courage and unsinkable spirit, her creativity and wit.
She was preceded in death by one aunt, Faye Junkin Hudnall and her grandparents, Frank and Helen Junkin and Charlie and Clare Schloemer.
Survivors include her parents of Madison; one brother, Charlie of Hattiesburg; one niece, Julia Schloemer of Starkville and her intended, Ben; two aunts, Ellen Junkin Saunders and husband, James, of Natchez and Mary Fred Schloemer Clemmons and husband, H.L., of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two uncles, Buster Junkin and wife, Shelley, and Stuart Hudnall, all of Natchez; and a number of close-knit cousins.
