Threat of rain forces Natchez tennis to reschedule

NATCHEZ — Wednesday turned out to be a lovely day for Natchez High School to host its tennis match with Forest Hill High School.
Unfortunately, Wednesday’s weather forecast was not as promising, and it kept Forest Hill at home in Jackson instead of coming to face Natchez in their region matchup.
“At 11 a.m. the coaches got together, and they didn’t want to risk putting the kids on the highway,” Natchez tennis director Henry Harris said.
Wednesday’s matches were scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. They have been rescheduled for 3:30 p.m. on April 18.
Harris said the Bulldogs were ready for Wednesday’s key region matchup, but they had to harness that energy into a good practice instead of matches.
“They were ready,” he said. “Hopefully we had them ready. We had a good week of practice leading up and now we’ll have to get ready for the next one.”
Natchez will not have to wait long. The Bulldogs are scheduled to travel to face Brandon High School this afternoon.
“This gives us an extra day to work on serves, returns and other little stuff we need to work on,” Harris said. “It will get us a little more prepared for Brandon, and a whole lot more prepared for Forest Hill next week.”
Natchez is 0-2 so far this season in the region. They will face Brandon in region play today. Next week, the Bulldogs have Terry High School. They travel to Forest Hill April 16, before finishing up with Forest Hill April 18.
Harris said all region matches have to be played before the region tournament April 19.
Harris said he believes pushing Wednesday’s matches to the day before the region tournament will actually help Natchez in the postseason.
“In getting ready for the tournament it will help them playing the day before instead of just practicing,” he said.
