NATCHEZ — Cathedral School head football coach Ron Rushing has decided to remain at Cathedral instead of taking a job as offensive coordinator at Brookhaven High School according to a text message Rushing sent to Cathedral parents and fans Saturday.
“Monday when I made the decision to leave Cathedral to go to Brookhaven I made a mistake,” Rushing said in the text message. “I thought I was bettering myself as a coach, but as the days have passed I found myself second guessing my decision. Ultimately my heart and my family belong at Cathedral.”
In the text message Rushing said he was able to correct what he called a mistake.
“I am thankful for what we have at Cathedral and am looking forward to making this year another successful season,” Rushing said in the text message.
Rushing has put together a 22-5 record in his first two seasons as Cathedral head coach. He has taken the Green Wave to the playoffs in both seasons.
Cathedral Chief Administrator Pat Sanguinetti said Rushing informed him of his decision to return at approximately 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
“I guess my best comment would be it’s an Easter present,” Sanguinetti said. “I know the kids are jumping up and down right now, and I am too. He called me earlier today, and I said absolutely. He said he wanted to come back, and I said, ‘You got your job.’ It was the easiest decision I’ve had to make.”
