NATCHEZ — Another round of steady to heavy rain that came through the Miss-Lou early this week forced some local and area baseball and fast-pitch softball games to be rescheduled.

Cathedral was scheduled to travel to Meadville to take on Franklin County in a junior varsity and varsity tilt Tuesday afternoon as the Green Wave prepares for the MHSAA Class 1A South State Playoffs. Instead, the games were rained out.

The Green Wave will take on Natchez High today at Chester Willis Field with the varsity game at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs will be the home team in this game. Then Cathedral will host Franklin County on Thursday with the JV game at 5 p.m. and the varsity game at 7 p.m.

Vidalia’s junior varsity and varsity baseball games against LHSAA District 3-3A opponent Buckeye were rained out and postponed until Friday. While the varsity game between the Panthers and the Vikings will take place at 6 p.m., there will be no JV game.

For the second straight day, Block’s baseball and softball teams were a victim of the inclement weather from this slow-moving weather system. Block’s varsity baseball game at LaSalle in Olla, La., has now been moved to Friday at either 4 or 5 p.m.

The LHSAA District 4-1A co-champion and No. 6 seed Block Lady Bears were scheduled to host No. 27 seed Christian Life Academy in the bi-district round of the Class 1A Softball Playoffs on Monday, but too much rain over the last two days forced that game to be rescheduled until today at 3:30 p.m. Lady Bears head coach Robert Swayze added that the field was too wet to play on on Tuesday.

Franklin County’s fast-pitch softball varsity doubleheader at Brookhaven was also done in by the heavy rain that hammered much of Lincoln County on Tuesday. Those games will not be made up. The Lady Bulldogs host Sumrall in their MHSAA Region 7-3A finale on Thursday with the junior varsity game at 5:30 p.m., senior recognition at 6:30 p.m. and the varsity game at 7 p.m.

And just when it appeared that Monterey’s varsity game at Rapides in LeCompte, La. in an LHSAA District 4-B game was going to take place Tuesday afternoon, it ended up being rained out and rescheduled for 4 p.m. Friday.

The Wolves will host district opponent Oak Hill for Senior Day at 4 p.m. Thursday.
