SMITHDALE — A Smithdale man was killed Friday morning in a single-vehicle accident in Amite County.

According to a news release from the Mississippi Highway Patrol, John M. McCoy, 80, of Smithdale was traveling westbound on Mississippi 570 when his vehicle left the right side of the road and overturned.

The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle.

Troopers responded to the site of the collision at 11:37 a.m. McCoy was pronounced dead at the scene by Amite County Assistant Coroner Carla Sharp.

The collision is still under investigation.
