WCCA drops two, eliminated from playoffs

RAYVILLE, La. — The Wilkinson County Christian School baseball team needed just one win Thursday to eliminate Riverfield Academy and advance in the playoffs.
WCCA topped Riverfield 4-2 in the series opener Tuesday. But the Rams had trouble closing out Riverfield Thursday night and dropped both contests to the Raiders.
Riverfield controlled Game 1 and topped WCCA by a score of 13-2.
The second game was closer, but Riverfield was able to pull out a 9-5 victory to eliminate WCCA from the MAIS Class A South State playoffs.
The Rams finish their season with a record of 5-12.
Montgomery 12, Block 11
MONTGOMERY, La. — The Block baseball team had little trouble collecting runs when it hit the road Thursday night.
The Bears put up 11 runs, but fell one run shy of defeating Montgomery High School.
The loss drops Block to 6-15 on the season and 2-4 in LHSAA District 4-1A.
The Bears will face LaSalle today.
Franklin County softball 3, Sumrall 2
MEADVILLE — Lay Lay Griffin was the star of the show Thursday night in Franklin County’s contest with Sumrall.
Griffin went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and also pitched seven innings to get the win as the Lady Bulldogs won 3-2.
Jamecia Starks helped Griffin out at the plate with a triple.
The Lady Bulldogs scored all three runs in the bottom of the first inning after Sumrall took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Griffin allowed one more run in the third inning before shutting down Sumrall to hold on to the win.
The win puts Franklin County at 10-10-1 on the season. The Lady Bulldogs will face St. Andrew’s today in the play-in round of the MHSAA playoffs.
