FRISCO, Texas — Services for Dorothy Mae Wroten Williams, 89, of Prosper, Texas, went to be with the Lord and her Savior Tuesday, April 17, 2012, will be from 2 to 3 p.m. today at Turrentine Jackson Morrow Funeral Home with Warren Samuels officiating.

A reception will follow from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Graveside services will be Monday at the Royal Palms North Cemetery in St. Petersburg, Fla., under the direction of Turrentine Jackson Morrow Funeral Home in Frisco, Texas.

Mrs. Williams was born June 19, 1922, in Natchez, the daughter of Louis Everett Wroten and Mary Evelyn Starnes. She graduated from United Vocational High in Red Lick and had been owner or partner in several businesses which included Williams Grocery in Lorman, Gregg-Williams Insurance Company in Memphis, Tenn., and Singer Sewing Machine Company in St. Petersburg.

She was married to Thomas Carl Williams Sr. for 54 years.

Mrs. Williams volunteered for Ditty Bags for migrant workers of Florida. She loved beautiful flowers and was a member of several garden clubs and was known there for her wonderful American red and white roses. She loved to read and study her Bible and was always involved in ministries, clubs and organizations within the church and the community. She was president of the local PTA in Red Lick for four years. She was a passionate leader and teacher in her church. For a number of years she was president of the United Methodist Women’s organization.

Mrs. Williams was a member of Allendale First United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg and had been a favorite at First Baptist Church and Prestonwood Baptist Church in Prosper, Texas, since moving there with her beloved granddaughter Marla Carole Griffitt and her family in 2004. They were inseparable pair since the day that Marla came into this world. She was a bright shining light to everyone that she came into contact with, leading always by example of compassion, conviction and love.

Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son-in-law, Buddy Gene Gregg; and one daughter-in-law, Marion Diane Williams.

Survivors include one daughter, Dorothy Carole Gregg; one son, Thomas Carl Thomas Jr.; two granddaughters, Marla Carole Griffitt and husband, Brian Sr., and Carla Diane Holley; two grandsons, Gregory Gene Gregg and Van Williams; two great-grandsons, Brian Griffitt II and Aaron Griffitt; and two great-granddaughters, Savanah Diane Holley and Piper Aubrianna Holley.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Next Worldwide, P.O. Box 271130, Flower Mound, TX 75027, for a scholarship fund in Mrs. Williams’ name.
