LAUREN WOOD/THE NATCHEZ DEMOCRAT— Lt. Robert Arrington hugs Jay’lazarus Minor, 11, after being surprised by the boy and his family Friday at the Natchez Fire Department’s Central Station. The family came to thank Arrington for saving Jay’lazarus’ life the previous Sunday.

Jay’lazarus Minor, 11, visited his hero Friday, just five days after the Natchez firefighter saved the boy’s life.

Jay’lazarus was choking on a piece of plastic when his grandmother, Cursandra Robinson realized it and rushed him down the street to the house of Natchez fireman Lt. Robert Arrington. Arrington was able to dislodge the piece of plastic before taking Jay’lazarus’ and Robinson to the hospital. Jay’lazarus presented Arrington with a plaque Friday at the station. “I did what anyone of you in here would’ve done,” Arrington said.
