Natchez-Adams County took yet another small, but meaningful, step toward consolidation this week, and it was pretty painless.

The county board of supervisors opted to disband its own recreation board, since they already appoint representatives to the Natchez-Adams County Recreation Commission. The city and school district all have members on the commission.

The timing was right for the county since the board had lost a few members anyway. But more important, the move made sense for the county, because the ultimate goal is to have a unified approach to recreation anyway.

The plans were made months ago, and funding suggestions have been presented.

It’s time now for the county to take the lead in bringing all the talk to the point of reality.

The naysayers want to see a detailed outline of how such a project would affect their pocketbooks, and they do deserve such a plan.

Continued public dialog about recreation and a bit more timely actions will pay off for years to come.
