Last week was marked by memories, goodbyes and hope for the future as area students said farewell to high school and hello to the world.

Vidalia, Ferriday, Monterey and Central Louisiana Technical College hosted graduation ceremonies in the parish. Copiah-Lincoln Community College students in Natchez and Alcorn State University students also donned caps and gowns.

But diplomas weren’t the only part of last week worth celebrating.

Let’s review a few other good headlines from last week.

•The City of Natchez celebrated National Tourism Week with a concert, special event at the visitor’s center and by stopping unsuspecting tourists with a gift. We certainly appreciate our tourists here, and hope they enjoyed the special events.

•Trinity Episcopal Day School students took to the stage last week to perform Bible scenes in the Broadway show “Godspell.” The students worked hard for weeks prior to the show; we are proud of their dedication.

•Centreville Academy claimed its second straight state championship Friday night. Congratulations, Tigers.

Graduations and the close of the school year will keep the community busy in the coming weeks. But summer is just around the corner.
