Sheriff’s Office to ticket ATV riders

NATCHEZ — Even though it’s called an All-Terrain Vehicle, in Adams County, one terrain is off-limits for ATV riders — public streets and highways.

Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said effective immediately, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office will be issuing tickets to and towing the ATV of anyone seen riding the vehicles on public streets and roads.

“We’ve been getting a lot of complaints from residents and people call about ATV riders going across private land and operating on public roads,” Mayfield said. “That’s one reason we’re going to be ticketing and towing. Another reason is that when it’s all said and done, it’s not only for the safety of the rider, but for motorists trying to use the roads legally.”

The tickets issued will be for use of a non-registered vehicle on a public road.
