NATCHEZ — Graveside services for Addie Jane Thornton, 87, of Mobile, Ala., formerly of Natchez, who died Tuesday, May 15, 2012, in Mobile, were Friday, May 18, 2012, at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Brewer officiating.

Burial followed under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mrs. Thornton was born Sept. 10, 1924, in Gloster, the daughter of James McLeod and Edna Mae Corbin McLeod.

Mrs. Thornton was Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph Henry Thornton III; one brother, John Angus McLeod; two grandsons, Timothy Shawn Smith and Robert Todd Harrigill; and one granddaughter, Beverly Lynn Thornton.

Survivors include four daughters, Addie Jane Thornton of Ocala, Fla., Beverly Ann Smith and Betty Joe Williams, both of Mobile and Billie Sue Williamson of Houston, Texas; one son, Joseph Henry Thornton IV of Mobile; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Pauline Pace; two brothers, James McLeod and Wayne McLeod; and a number of nieces and nephews.
