NATCHEZ —Friends and family of Ainsley Belle Burke, 6, are organizing area fundraisers to help pay the family’s medical bills.
Burke, the daughter of Jamie and Elaine Cowart Burke, suffered a severe fracture to her left arm on May 27, 2011, while playing on a playground.
Doctors at the local hospital discovered that Burke had no pulse in the broken arm.
She was then airlifted to the children’s trauma center at the University of Alabama in Birmingham for surgery.
After surgery, complications began to arise.
Burke developed Compartment Syndrome, a condition that involves pressure within an extremity and can lead to muscle and nerve damage.
She later went to Children’s Hospital of Vanderbilt University for further pain management and was diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.
Her body now registers pain out of proportion to the injury.
Several surgeries later, Burke still struggles with pain.
She has appointments on June 13 and 14 at Children’s Hospital of Boston for further evaluation.
Natchez residents Jayne Jackson and Jodie Magee have organized Angels for Ainsley and are spearheading two fundraisers — a T-shirt sale and a raffle.
To buy shirts or tickets, call Jackson at 601-807-7187.
Private donations can be made at United Mississippi Bank.
Jamie and Elaine Cowart Burke are Natchez natives and Cathedral School graduates.
Ainsley is the granddaughter of Curtis and Deborah Cowart, Tony and Barbara Burke and Jerry and Dovie Reeder.
