WEEKEND TICKET: Festival offers weekend family fun

NATCHEZ — As the weekend approaches, so do stormy skies.

The temperatures will reach the high 80s throughout the weekend, and each day has a chance of showers and thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

Here’s what you can do in the Miss-Lou this weekend — just stay dry.

Sibley Zydeco Festival

Families looking for live music and outdoor entertainment can attend the Fifth Annual Sibley Zydeco Festival Saturday at Ben Corner Plantation in Sibley.

The gates will open at 7 a.m. and activities will take place throughout the day.

Live performances will begin at 2 p.m. and will feature Leroy Thomas, Tucka, Jeff Floyd, Columbus Toy, Big G, Donnell Sullivan, Dave Mack and others.

For those who looking for something more recreational, horse trail rides will begin at 4 p.m.

Anyone feeling adventurous can head over to the ATV track where rides will be available all day. The cost is $5, and riders must were safety gear.

There will also be a rodeo beginning at 7 p.m.

Food vendors will be set up on site.

For those families with multiple interests, this festival is a great blend of adventure, fun and entertainment.

Admission is $20 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children younger than 6.

Natchez Little Theatre Production

Those in need of a good laugh can attend Natchez Little Theater’s production of “The Rivals,” which will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

A comedy about two love-struck teenagers and their domineering parents, “The Rivals” first premiered in 1775 in London.

A timeless plot and an exciting cast promise to engage viewers throughout the show.

Second Saturday

Shops in downtown Natchez will welcome visitors during extended hours, until 8 p.m.

The Rolland Golden Gallery will display “French Travels-Encore,” featuring paintings and drawings by Golden of sites from around France during his various journeys throughout France.

Forever Tigers Homecoming Parade and Celebration

The former Tigers of Sicily Island invite the community to join them Saturday for their second annual homecoming parade and celebration.

The parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the City Ball Park. Following the parade, attendees can enjoy live music, food and vendors.

Admission is free. All proceeds will benefit Sicily Island school.

Natchez National Historic Parks Flags Presentation

Any history buffs can head over to Melrose this afternoon for a free “Flags of the Civil War” presentation.

The program will start at 1:30 p.m. and last approximately 45 minutes.

Concordia Parish Library Magic Show

Parents and children looking for a little magic today can attend “Magic at the Library” featuring magician David LeBouef. The show will begin at 10:15 a.m. at the Ferriday Library and at 2 p.m. at the Vidalia Library. The magic show is sponsored by friends at Concordia Bank and is free to the public.

Big River Jamboree

Country music and dancing will fill the Shrine Hall on Morgantown Road Saturday night beginning at 6 p.m.

The band SureFire will entertain.

American Queen docking

The steamboat will dock Under-the-Hill from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.
