Logan to host local combine

NATCHEZ — Miss-Lou athletes hoping to show prospective recruiters what they can do athletically will have an opportunity to measure themselves against their peers June 18 and 19 at Natchez High School.
Speedrank.net, a website run by former Natchez athlete and Major League Baseball player Nook Logan, provides high school athletes with a profile that compiles their achievements in athletic combines.
Logan will bring his combine to Natchez later this month, and he said local athletes can go ahead and sign up for a profile on the website.
“I’m from (Natchez), and I know how hard it is,” Logan said. “You don’t have very many people that have the opportunity (to get noticed). The idea of the website is we go out and work hard to do extra things for these kids. It’s not only recruiting. We also give them the opportunity to feel like all the hard work they put in during the spring and summer is paying off when they get to see their results.”
Logan said the key to Speedrank is that the website provides videos of each athlete’s performance and not just numbers.
“We video this stuff,” he said. “A recruiter can go to his profile and actually see him run. It’s really the importance of seeing the video.”
Logan said once a player creates his profile, he could make videos of himself working out, doing drills or running and upload that video to his profile.
Logan said Speedrank has really taken off in Texas since it started in May 2011, and he really wanted to bring it back to his hometown.
“I just wanted to bring it home to give the kids the exposure they need,” Logan said.
Logan said Speedrank.net has tested approximately 15,000 athletes since it started last year, and he has seen instances where players were not receiving interest from colleges and Speedrank.net helped them get several scholarship offers.
Logan said any athlete could participate in the combine as long as they are in high school.
Players can register at Speedrank.net. The price of the combine is $25, which includes two attempts at the 40-yard dash, shuttle run and vertical jump as well as a player profile on Speedrank.net.
Walk-up registration is $40 at the combine.
The combine is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.
Logan is co-founder of the website with his Anthony Lymberopoulos. The Speed Rank team can be reached at 601-807-6570 for more information.
