Lane closure on bridge was only for inspection

NATCHEZ — Traffic on U.S. 84 was funneled down to one lane Wednesday so the Mississippi Department of Transportation could inspect the railroad bridge that crosses the highway just beyond the Mississippi River bridge in Natchez.
The inspection was a regular part of MDOT’s transportation maintenance program, said Janet Sullivan, assistant to MDOT commissioner Wayne Brown.
“That was just routine maintenance and inspection,” Sullivan said. “We do that with all bridges, and we just got around to this one.”
Inspectors had to close one lane of traffic so they could use a boom truck to lift them up to the bottom of the bridge for the inspection.
