NATCHEZ — The Natchez Children’s Home Celebrity Golf Tournament will see a couple of changes this fall.

To commemorate the 20-year anniversary of the TC Jordan Tour, the Children’s Home plans to invite former players from that tour to join the usual host of celebrities, Executive Director Nancy Hungerford said.

“The Children’s Home started working with a developmental golf tour in the early ’90s, which was the TC Jordan Tour,” Hungerford said. “Some of those young men came to Natchez and stayed in some of the homes here, and we really rolled out the welcoming mat.”

Hungerford said the Children’s Home has reached out to some of those former players from the TC Jordan Tour in hopes of bringing them back for another round of golf.

“Having some of them come back who were young and hungry at that time will be good,” Hungerford said. “Now, they’re probably middle aged and not so hungry, but they still love the game.”

Hungerford also said some of the families that hosted those golfers have stayed in touch with the golfers through the years, adding to the desire for a reunion.

“Some of them have gone on to do really well, and others not so well,” Hungerford said. “The main thing is, it’s a one-time reunion for all of them.”

Beau Pré Country Club will still host the tournament, but the celebrity tour will take place Sept. 21-22 instead of the usual early November dates.

“We didn’t want it to conflict with the other major events in Natchez, and we expect there to be good weather,” Hungerford said. “The new golf pro, Carey Witten, is on board, and I understand that the course is in excellent shape.”

Some things won’t change, though, including the breakfast and visit that the golfers will get to enjoy with the children at the Children Home, Hungerford said.

“The children get wonderful attention from the adults, attention that the children both love and need,” Hungerford said. “It’s positive and fun, and it’s part of our mission of having a good experience for these children.”
