MEADVILLE — Services for Ruby Lee McMillan Holder, 93, of Meadville, who died Sunday, June 17, 2012, will be at 10 a.m. today at Meadville Presbyterian Church.
Burial will follow at Union Church Cemetery in Jefferson County under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville.
Mrs. Holder was born Feb. 12, 1919, in Eddiceton, the daughter of Bert and Hattie Erwin McMillan.
In November of 1941, she married Edwin Halbert “Foots” Holder. After the birth of their only child, Larry, she was diagnosed with polio. Her optimism, spirit and devoted family and friends gave her the support and strength to live 76 years after being stricken with polio.
Foots and Ruby Lee lived first in Franklin County where she worked as deputy chancery clerk and later as part owner of the Ray Lee Flower Shop. In 1956, she and her husband began an adventure together working for Alcoa Aluminum Company which took them all over the Caribbean. Even with her illness, Ruby Lee always enjoyed working in the public and private sectors, eventually retiring home to Meadville and Natchez.
Mrs. Holder was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 56 years; and one grandson, Christopher Weir Holder.
Survivors include her son, Larry Eugene Holder and wife, Annette, of Natchez; two grandsons, Spencer Lawrence Holder of Natchez and Wade McMillan Holder and wife, Graham, of Huntsville, Ala.; and one great-grandson, Campbell McMillan Holder of Huntsville.
