America can be more energy-independent

Summer is officially here, and that means longer, hotter days and unfortunately higher energy prices.
As we turn up the air conditioning and fill up the gas tank more frequently in the coming months, we will inevitably be reminded of the need to lower energy costs and to find ways to achieve energy sustainability and independence.
Recently, the House of Representatives introduced H.R. 4480, also known as the Domestic Energy and Jobs Act.
This bill would develop a plan to increase oil and gas exploration, development and production.
Specifically, this legislation amends the Energy Policy and Conservation Act to increase the percentage of federal lands leased for energy exploration.
America’s dependence on foreign oil weakens our economic and national security.
Regaining American energy sources is necessary for a prosperous and secure future, and this bill would help achieve that.
After voting, I am pleased to report that my colleagues and I succeeded in passing the Domestic Energy and Jobs Act.
This is a step in the right direction, but there is still more work to be done. As we continue to be confronted with high energy prices and an unpredictable market, rest assured that I will continue to work towards a more energy-independent America.
