Trinity brings in Cade to coach lines

NATCHEZ — The Trinity Episcopal football team brought in some experience this week to team up with its young, new coaching staff.
Trinity hired former Ferriday High School and Natchez High School coach Robert Cade to coach the offensive and defensive lines this fall.
“What attracted us when we met him was his experience,” Trinity Board of Trustees Chairman Rod Givens said. “He’s sort of that quiet, fatherly-type, of guy. He’s been there and been to state championships. We feel like he complements the young guys.”
Trinity head coach Josh Loy said the decision to hire Cade was a joint decision with the board.
“It was sort of a joint decision with the board,” he said. “We talked, and he jelled. I think it’s the right decision to add him. He brings a wealth of experience.”
Cade, whose last coaching gig was as offensive coordinator at Natchez High School five years ago, said he thought he could bring something to the Trinity program.
“More or less, I’m coming on to see what we could do to help enhance the program,” Cade said.
Cade said in his brief time at Trinity he already sees potential in the Saints’ players.
“I don’t know anything about the players yet, really,” he said. “I know they have a winning tradition here, and from the ones I’ve spoken to and watching them in the weight room, I know they have a great work ethic and want to get better.”
Cade said he has been in the coaching business for approximately 30 years with stops at Alcorn State, Ferriday, Waterproof High School as head coach and Natchez.
Cade said he hopes he can help Trinity’s new coaches put a winning product on the field.
“Coach Loy is very knowledgeable about the game,” Cade said.
Cade is pastor of the Word of Faith Ambassadors Worship Center, and he said coaching football and leading a congregation are similar tasks.
“It’s basically the same thing as pastoring,” he said. “You try to get a group of people to work together for a common goal. You get people on the same page at time same time to try to make a difference on the field or in the community. It’s the same principle.”
Cade’s hiring gives Trinity three coaches on staff now, Givens said, and Loy will continue to make decisions on any additions he may need.
“We left that in (Loy’s) hands to decide what else he needs,” Givens said. “We feel at least we have got a core group to keep us functioning, and we have the latitude to add a couple more.”
