NATCHEZ — Services for Charlie Hamilton Jr., 79, of Natchez, who died Sunday, July 15, 2012, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at New Beginnings Baptist Church with the Rev. James Beverly officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Hamilton was born Sept. 20, 1932, in Natchez, the oldest son of Charlie Hamilton Sr. and Josephine Miller Hamilton.

He was a graduate of Brumfield High School and attended Natchez Junior College. He was retired from Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company as a Banbury operator.

Mr. Hamilton was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church where he served as head deacon and superintendent of the Sunday School. He enjoyed studying God’s word, hunting, gardening and stylish fashions.

Mr. Hamilton was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings, Otis Hamilton, AC Hamilton, Cardell Hamilton and Lily Hamilton Brown; and two grandchildren, Chadrick Hamilton and Deletha Mock.

Survivors include a devoted wife, Shirley Hamilton; three sons, Wendell Hamilton and wife, Bonita, and Gerald Garret, all of Natchez, and Thomas Hamilton of Jackson; seven daughters, Delrae Felton, Carolla Bernard and husband, Herman Sr., Inez Hamilton, Juanita Quinn, Jacqueline Ford and the Rev. Ernest Ford Jr., all of Natchez, Dianne Mason and husband, Sam, and Lesia Hawkins, all of Houston, Texas; four stepchildren, Connie Shaw and Stanley Sanders, both of Birmingham, Ala., Brent Williams and wife, Angela, and Barry Williams, all of Roxie; and five sisters, Sue Willie Washington and husband, Dan, Bernice Davis and husband, Charles, Katie Murray and husband, Vincent, all of Natchez, Elise Osborne and husband, Willie, of Montgomery, Ala., and Ruby Bright and husband, Willie, of Chicago.

Pallbearers will be children and grandchildren.
