MONTEREY — Services for Phillip Elton Burley, 47, of Farmerville, La., formerly of Monterey, who died Thursday, July 19, 2012, at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe, La., will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Monterey First Baptist Church with the Rev. Glen Harrigill officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Burley was born March 26, 1965, in Ferriday, the son of Harold and Ruth Burley. He worked as a sand blaster and painting contractor in the Miss-Lou area and was a member of Monterey First Baptist Church.
Phillip was an avid outdoorsman, hunting in whatever season it was and fishing in between. He had a love for baseball, playing all throughout his childhood which naturally lead him into coaching baseball teams in the Vidalia youth programs.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bill Burley.
Survivors include two daughters, Chelsey Burley and Bailey Burley; two sons, Michael Currie and Mitchell Currie; the mother of his children and best friend, Jamie; one brother, Randy Burley of Houston, Texas; one grandson, Elijah Owen Currie; and his loving father and mother-in-law, Bryan and Jonelle Wiley.
Pallbearers will be Richard Young, Jason Tiffee, Jess Horton, Joe Bryan, Joe Mount and Kelvin Beard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Tiffee, Joe Young, Coach Mike Mallory and Charles McCall.
