NATCHEZ — Services for David A. Lipscomb Jr., 79, of Pearl, formerly of Natchez, who died Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at his residence, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harold Tracy officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Lipscomb was born June 28, 1933, in Hazlehurst, the son of D.A. Lipscomb and Lennie Mae Lipscomb. A native of Natchez, he proudly represented his country in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Neosha. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he returned to Natchez where he became well known and respected in the construction business. He and his family built a number of residential homes in Natchez and surrounding areas.
He later entered the commercial construction arena moving to Jackson in 1971. He was a skilled craftsman, working projects in a number of states that included Texas, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Florida and all over Mississippi.
Mr. Lipscomb’s last building project was the Oprah Winfrey’s Boys and Girls Club in Kosciusko.
He loved his wife and family and will be dearly missed.
Mr. Lipscomb was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Lipscomb; and one sister, Ruth Ann Dawson.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Tracy Lipscomb; one son, David A. Lipscomb III and wife, Wanda; one daughter, Roslyn L. Lewis and husband, Randy; five grandchildren, Chad Lipscomb, Tate Lipscomb, Bret Lipscomb, Ryan Lewis and Reid Lewis; one sister, Dorothy Holder; three brothers, Charles Lipscomb, Robert Lipscomb and Fred Lipscomb; and a number of great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
