GLOSTER — Services for Emma W. Brumfield, 88, of Gloster, who died Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at Promise Hospital in Vidalia, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Plymouth Church in Gloster.
Burial will follow at Roseland Cemetery in Gloster under the direction of Brown Funeral Home in Gloster.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Brumfield was born Feb. 29, 1924, a leap year baby, in Amite County, the daughter of John P. and Ruth Musgrove Wilkinson. She was a graduate of Liberty High School and lived all of her life in Amite County.
Mrs. Brumfield was married to Samuel C. Brumfield, the love of her life, during World War II. After the war, they built their home on Highway 24 where they lived happily the rest of their lives.
Miss Emma, as she was affectionately known by all in Gloster, worked for 29 years for Mississippi Power and Light Company in Gloster and was the bright, smiling face that greeted everyone at the power company.
She was a lifelong, faithful member of Plymouth Primitive Baptist Church, a charter member of the first Mississippi Chapter of Colonial Dames XVIIC, which became the Magnolia Chapter, Amite County Historical Society and the Gloster Garden Club.
Mrs. Brumfield was preceded in death by her husband; three children whose names are known only to the Lord; her parents; and all of her brothers-in-law.
Survivors include sisters, Evelyn W. Williams of Natchez; Elder Jerry Williams and wife, Jeanine, of Vidalia, Susan W. Hatten and husband, Elder Dub Hatten of West Monroe, La., John C. Williams of Natchez, Julia Brumfield Peters and husband, Lewis, of Baton Rouge; two special cousins, Elaine Smith of Gloster and Ernestine Lewis of Oak Grove, La.; all of whom loved her dearly as their “Aunt Em” and a church family of beloved brethren.
