NATCHEZ — Mayor Butch Brown did not have his scheduled heart stent procedure last week and received a clean bill of health at his annual prostate cancer check-up this week.

Brown said the artery in which the doctor had planned to put a stent was too small for the stent, but he said his doctor said Brown has plenty of blood flow to his heart through his corollary arteries.

“When they ran the test on it, it was going to be a little more difficult to do, but they did not want to do any kind of bypass surgery,” Brown said. “They opted not to do (the stent procedure), saying I had plenty of blood flow without doing the stents. They sent me home and told me to take care of myself and lose weight and exercise.”

Brown said he received a clean bill of health at his annual prostate cancer check-up this week at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Brown was first diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2008 and was treated for three reoccurrences, the last of which was discovered in October 2010.
