NATCHEZ — A Georgia man was arrested Wednesday on charges he sexually abused an Adams County child.

John Edward Young, 36, 7364 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Ga., was booked on charges of sexual battery. He was detained on a $175,000 bond.

Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said the ACSO responded to the crime at a local hospital, where the victim’s father contacted a deputy.

Young is reportedly a relative of the alleged victim, and had come to stay with the family.

Mayfield said the crime was discovered after the relatives with whom Young was staying allegedly walked in on him and the child while he was allegedly performing a sexual act.

The victim is a child younger than 13 years old, Mayfield said.

The Department of Human Services was contacted following the incident, but the child is in parental custody and will be interviewed by professionals at the Southwest Mississippi Children’s Advocacy Center as part of the investigation, Mayfield said.

The investigation is ongoing.
