SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. — The Vidalia 15- and 16-year-old All-Stars were only playing for pride Friday night, but their final performance at the Senior League World Series will allow them to leave Delaware with a good taste in their mouths.
After being eliminated from championship contention Wednesday, the girls representing the Southwest U.S. collected 12 hits to top Guam, who was representing Asia Pacific, 10-6 in their final game.
Laura Perilloux led the offense for Vidalia by racking up four hits and two runs scored. Paige Bryan also managed multiple hits in the contest going 2-for-4.
Nikki Harbor, Karlee Woodruff, Blake Colclasure, Taylor Rodgers, Lacee Book and Savannah McCarver each had hits for Vidalia.
Rodgers got the win on the mound for Vidalia, who finished the tournament with a 2-3 record.
Vidalia jumped out to an early lead by scoring six runs in the first inning. Vidalia then scored two runs in the second inning and one run in the third inning to lead 9-5 after three complete.
Each team added a run in the fourth inning, but Vidalia stiffened defensively after that and shut out its opponents from Guam in the final three frames.
