MCCOMB — Centreville Academy’s defense kept Parklane Academy’s offense off the scoreboard, but the Tigers’ offense sputtered against the host Pioneers Saturday afternoon at the Parklane Academy Jamboree.

The result was a 0-0 tie between the two teams. Centreville assistant coach Brian Stutzman said the defense held its own against Parklane, but the offense still needs some room to improve.

“Defensively, we played well. We had a lot of people out of position. But we still made the big plays when we had to. But offensively, we’ve got a lot of work to do,” Stutzman said.

Stutzman said the Tigers’ offensive line did a good job on pass protection. However, the run blocking, which has been a key element for their offense for many years, was “non-existent.”

He said that Colby Shaw played good at defensive end and that the secondary as a unit stood out to him. He noted that the linebackers played OK.

“But we can get better everywhere (on defense),” he said.

Stutzman said as a team, the Tigers need to improve on both sides of the ball as their regular season opener against Amite School Center approaches this Friday.

“We had too many penalties. They’ve got to do a much better job blocking up front,” he said.
