LAUREL — The last time Adams County Christian School and Lauren Christian School’s varsity girls’ soccer teams met, the Lady Lions had their way in an 11-2 win a couple of weeks ago.

ACCS played much better defensively in their MAIS Division II South rematch Saturday afternoon, but the result was the same as Laurel Christian came away with a 5-0 win over the Lady Rebels.

“It was a hard fought match. It was 2-0 at halftime,” Lady Rebels head coach Jimmy Allgood said. “Overall, the girls stepped up and played a real good match against one of the better teams in the state of Mississippi.

Allgood credited Mollie Simpson, Merritt Murray and Kristen Rhinehart for their strong defensive play. And even though the Lady Rebels were not able to get the ball into the goal, there were several offensive attacks from Jordan Parker.

“Our girls are really starting to play more aggressive defense. Offensively, we’re having to adjust some of our strikes to play a heavier, more aggressive defense,” Allgood said. “Our two main strikers are having to go to the back of the defense to take on their strikers.”

The junior varsity game between the two schools ended in a 0-0 tie.

“Several newcomers stepped up to the plate. They did a great job,” Allgood said.

ACCS (3-4, 2-4) next plays at Veritas at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
