MONTICELLO — Services for Johnny Eugene Boyte, 63, of Monticello, who died Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, in the loving arms of his wife, Linda, and surrounded by other family members at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Jackson, were 2 p.m. Thursday at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. He had battled lung cancer for more than two years.
Burial followed at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home in Monticello.
Mr. Boyte was born Nov. 25, 1948, in Brookhaven, the son of Harvey and Agnes Boyte. He was raised by his father, Harvey, and his mother, Katie Ruth. He joined the U.S. Marine Corp in 1968 and served his country in Vietnam. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with device Rifle Marksmanship Badge, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon and other various awards. Johnny also served in the Mississippi National Guard in Monticello for a number of years.
In 1970, Johnny began employment with St. Regis Paper Company and retired from Georgia Pacific in 2008.
Johnny was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church. He loved his pastor and church family. He was also an active member of Shirley Magee Memorial VFW Post 4889.
Johnny was preceded in death by his mother, Agnes Smith Calcote, and one sister, Kathy Boyte.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Lewis Boyte; three children, Laura Rogers and husband, Eddie, of Hattiesburg, Jonathan Eugene Boyte and wife, Alina, of Jackson and Amanda Henderson and husband, Brandon, of New Hebron; his father and his wife, Katie Ruth Newell Boyte of Natchez; four grandchildren, Darby Burghard, Trustin Henderson, Braydon Henderson and Emma Catherine Henderson; three brothers, Randy Smith, Dwight Boyte and Darrell Boyte; and one sister, Susan Watkins of Natchez.
