Ben Hillyer / The Natchez Democrat — It’s not a scene you would normally see from the back of an ambulance, but Friday was a day to celebrate and honor the area’s first responders during the United Way of the Miss-Lou Jambalaya Cook Off. Lynn Barnes eats her plate of jambalaya from the back of a Metro Ambulance in the Natchez Convention Center Friday. Winners of the cook off include: Master Gardeners – first place, people’s choice award and best team booth; The Markets – second place; Natchez Community Hospital – third place; Natchez-Adams Council on Aging – best agency booth.

BEN HILLYER / THE NATCHEZ DEMOCRAT — Master Gardeners member Rose Godfrey and chef Bingo Starr found out there was no food prize for the first place award for the best jambalaya during the United Way of the Miss-Lou Jambalaya Cook-off. But the team did win the coveted Jambalaya pot for having made the best jambalaya. The team also won the people’s choice award during Friday’s event.
