County roundups: Voorhies leads way as WCHS gets win

WOODVILLE — Wilkinson County junior quarterback Devin Voorhies accounted for 277 total yards of offense and three rushing touchdowns as the Wildcats defeated the South Pike Eagles 32-8 Friday night.
Voorhies had 12 carries for 112 yards and touchdown runs of 23, 22 and 1 yards. He also completed 14 of 25 passes for 165 yards with one interception. Wilkinson County trailed South Pike 8-6 in the first quarter before scoring 26 unanswered points.
Wilkinson County (3-0) plays at Baker (La.) next Friday with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
Clarksdale 40, Franklin County 32
CLARKSDALE — Chris Robinson had 21 carries for 219 yards and three touchdowns for Franklin County, but the Clarksdale Wildcats scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to rally from a 32-26 deficit to defeat the Bulldogs Friday night.
Cornelius Williams made sure that Class 5A Clarksdale would not be denied on this night. He scored on a four-yard run and Christopher Carpenter added the extra point with 9:20 left to give the Wildcats a 33-32 lead. He then threw a 37-yard touchdown pass to Rontarrius Morris with 4:23 remaining for a 40-32 lead.
Jadarius Davis threw his fourth interception of the game with less than two minutes to go in Franklin County’s final drive.
Franklin County (2-2) plays at Amite County next Friday at 7:30 p.m.
East Marion 25,
Jefferson County 14
COLUMBIA — Ryhean McMorris had two long touchdown runs, and East Marion picked off three passes, one of which was returned for a touchdown, as the Eagles defeated the Jefferson County Tigers Friday night.
Jefferson County couldn’t move the ball effectively against East Marion’s defense. The Tigers were held to 139 yards of total offense and didn’t even get on the scoreboard until their defense had a safety midway through the third quarter.
Jefferson County (1-3) hosts South Delta next Friday at 7:30 p.m.
