NATCHEZ — Services for Robert Malcolm “Buck” Groves, 81, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Promise Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Lovely Lane Methodist Church with the Rev. Len McRaney and Sonny Daniels officiating.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Buck was born June 30, 1931, in McNair, the son of Boyd and Emma Grainger Groves. He was a Korean War veteran and a lifetime member of VFW Post 9573. Telling stories of his experiences on “Old Baldy” was a favorite pastime of his.
Buck retired after working 35 years for Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company. He was a charter member of Lovely Lane Methodist Church. He also coached his children and grandchildren in baseball and softball.
Buck was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 60 years, Colleen; one daughter, Willa Groves Reed; and one granddaughter, DeAnn Lee.
Survivors include two daughters, Robbie Lanehart and husband, Al, and Deede Schrock and husband, Mark, all of Natchez; one sister, Edith Peacock of Baton Rouge; four grandchildren, Stacy Blough of Little Rock, Ark., Jaclyn Pope and husband, Todd, of Meridian, Heather Schrock and Taylor Reed, both of Natchez; seven great-grandchildren, Jackson and Cooper Blough, Cooper, Chapman, Conner and Cannon Pope and Layten Chapman; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Larry Lawrence, Brent Weadock, Stewart Williams, Tony Kirsch, Ken Britt and Jim Blough.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Barry Tillman, the staff at Promise Hospital and four special ladies, Sherrie, Kelley, Carlyn and Michelle.
