Softball roundups: Porter’s Chapel tops Trinity

NATCHEZ — Porter’s Chapel put a damper on Senior Night for Trinity Episcopal as the Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Saints 10-4 Monday afternoon at the Natchez-Adams Girls Softball Complex.
Trinity led Porter’s Chapel 2-1 after three innings of play before things fell apart for the Lady Saints in the top of the fourth. The Lady Eagles scored eight runs on just one hit while the Lady Saints walked a batter, hit a batter and committed four of their seven errors. Trinity scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Trinity Episcopal was led by Marty Lewis, who went 3-for-3, and Tali Beard, who was 2-for-2. Winning pitcher Hannah Krapac led Porter’s Chapel at the plate as she went 2-for-3.
The Lady Saints (4-11) play at Brookhaven Academy in its MAIS District 5-AA finale today at 5 p.m.
Silliman Institute 7, ACCS 3
CLINTON, La. — Bradleigh Brignac hit a home run and Silliman Institute took advantage of four Adams County Christian School errors as the Lady Wildcats defeated the Lady Rebels Monday night.
ACCS jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning before Silliman rallied for three runs in the bottom of the first. The Lady Wildcats added two runs in the bottom of the third inning and again in the bottom of the four to go ahead 7-1. ACCS scored two runs in the top of the fifth, but it was not enough.
Ashleigh Williams went 2-for-2 and Jessica Reynolds was 2-for-3 to lead the Lady Rebels. ACCS (15-12) hosts Columbia Academy for its District 5-AA finale with the junior varsity game at 4 p.m. and the varsity game at 5:15 p.m.
Briarfield Academy 9, Tensas Academy 2
ST. JOSEPH, La. — An untimely error by Tensas Academy with the bases loaded in the top of the fourth inning led to three runs for Briarfield Academy as the Lady Rebels rallied to defeat the Lady Chiefs Monday afternoon.
Tensas Academy (8-14) jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the first inning, only to see Briarfield rally from behind in the final four innings. Bailey Keyes was the losing pitcher. The Lady Rebels scored four runs on four hits in the top of the second inning to take the lead for good at 5-1.
Hali Matthews hit a leadoff inside-the-park home run that was followed by a double from Lauren Matthews and an RBI double by Hannah James that gave Tensas Academy its only lead of the ball game. James went 2-for-3 with two doubles. The Lady Chiefs travel to Liberty to take on Amite School Center today at 4 p.m. with the MAIS District 6-A championship on the line.
Centreville Academy 13, Bowling Green 5
CENTREVILLE — Tori Rouse hit a home run and winning pitcher Ariana Bigner helped her own cause by going 3-for-4 with two doubles as the Centreville Academy Lady Tigers defeated the Bowling Green School Lady Buccaneers in MAIS District 6-AA action Monday night.
Centreville scored seven runs in the first two innings to take a 7-2 lead, but Bowling Green did its best to stay in the ball game with three runs in the top of the third inning to cut the lead to 7-5. However, the Lady Tigers answered with six runs in the bottom of the fourth that finally put the game away.
On Senior Night, the Lady Tigers finished with 13 hits in the game, including six doubles. Laramie Greer hit two doubles while Braelon Bigner and Kaylea Hurst each had a double. Centreville (12-10, 3-3) hosts Columbia Academy next Monday with the JV game at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity game at 6:45 p.m.
