Cathedral Fall Festival tennis play halted

NATCHEZ — After enduring what was at the time a four-hour weather delay, Jessica Carter was hoping for the rain to stop and the tennis courts at Duncan Park to be dried so play could resume at the Cathedral Fall Festival Tennis Tournament.

Instead, the rain that halted play at 10:30 a.m. would not let up enough for that to happen Saturday afternoon. So, Carter, the tournament director, had no choice but to halt play for the day.

The hope now is that play will resume at 11:30 a.m. today. But with more rain in the forecast, that may be a problem.

Carter said that if none of the remaining matches are played, the tournament will be cancelled.

The only matches that got completed were the majority of first-round play in both men’s and women’s doubles and half of the mixed doubles matches. And that’s because the first matches of the day started at 8:30 a.m.

Duncan Park tennis pro Henry Harris said some matches didn’t even get started.
