PRENTISS — Rashaad Bradley threw a touchdown pass to De’Anthony Blake with less than two minutes to go in the fourth quarter as the Jefferson County Tigers rallied to defeat the Prentiss Tigers Friday night to remain undefeated in Region 7-3A.
Jefferson County head coach James Herrington said he was “absolutely” worried about a letdown after last week’s big win against Wilkinson County entering into Friday’s contest.
“You always worry about it,” he said. “We tried to keep it in the guys’ minds that it could happen.”
And it almost did in what was Prentiss’ homecoming game. The Bulldogs were still playing for a playoff spot after their upset win over Crystal Springs a week ago.
Prentiss scored in the first quarter on an interception return, and Jefferson County responded with a touchdown and a two-point conversion that Herrington noted was the difference in the outcome.
“The defense did an outstanding job, “Herrington said. “They ran the (double) wing pretty well.”
Jefferson County (5-4, 3-0) hosts top-ranked Hazlehurst next Friday in a game that could very well decide the Region 7-3A championship.
