MOREAUVILLE, La. — The good news for the Vidalia Vikings was that their offense showed signs of how good that side of the ball can be.
The bad news is that their defense could not make nearly enough plays to stay in the ball game, as the Avoyelles Mustangs rolled to a 74-34 win in LHSAA District 3-3A action Friday night.
Avoyelles (7-1, 2-1) jumped out to a 16-0 lead in the first quarter. Vidalia finally got on the scoreboard in the second quarter, yet the Vikings trailed the Mustangs 40-14 at halftime. The Vikings scored 14 points again in the third quarter, only to see the Mustangs put up 12 points for a 52-28 advantage. The fourth quarter saw Avoyelles outscore Vidalia 22-6.
Vidalia (1-7, 0-3) hosts Caldwell Parish next Friday at 7 p.m.
