Prep football: Block wraps up title

LENA, La. — The Block High School football team capped off a perfect district schedule with a 34-8 victory over Northwood-Lena High School Thursday night.
The Bears jumped on top with 34 points in the first half and did not allow Northwood-Lena to score until the fourth quarter.
The Bears started the scoring with a 35-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Vault to Dorian Bowman. Williams Cummings added an 11-yard run, and Ken Colbert scored on a 53-yard run to give Block a 21-0 lead after one quarter.
Mario Bowman added a score early in the second quarter on a 1-yard run, and Cummings scored again on a 10-yard run in the second quarter to end Block’s 34-0 run.
Mario Bowman rushed for 60 yards on four carries, Colbert rushed once for 53 yards. Vault finished 3-of-7 passing for 83 yards and one touchdown. Jahmal Macklin caught two of those passes for 48 yards.
Aaron Bell led the Block defense with five tackles and one assist.
Block (8-2, 4-0) will go into the playoffs as the champions of LHSAA District 4-1A. The Bears will find out their opening-round opponent this weekend.
