NATCHEZ — Services for Rosalie Fleming, 92, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Crown Rehab, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at King Solomon Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Schiele officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Curtis Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Mrs. Hawkins was born Nov. 21, 1919, the daughter of Bennie Winters and Mary Ella Ellis Winters. She was raised by her aunt, Winnie Robertson.
Mrs. Hawkins was a graduate of Alcorn State University. She was an educator for the Adams County public schools for almost 40 years. She was a member and mother of King Solomon Baptist Church and served on other church organizations.
Mrs. Hawkins was a member of Delta Chi Zeta of Zeta Phi Beta, Inc., Alcorn Alumni Association, and Retired Teachers of Mississippi-Southwest Unit. She was also a member of the Worthy Women of Watkins Street Cemetery, past member of the Eastern Star and a Rhythm Night Club survivor.
Mrs. Hawkins was passionate about family, King Solomon, Alcorn, Zeta Phi Beta, flowers, education and all children. Her motto was “help anybody you can, anytime you can!”
Survivors include one son, Lionell Smith and wife, Linda, of DeRidder, La., and his brother and sister, Edward J. Connor and his wife, Brenda, and Pat Jackson and her husband, Larry, all of Natchez; seven grandchildren, Kira Smith and Brandon J. Smith, both of Gauther, Amiyah, David and Isiah, all of Fort Polk, La., Trystan Rosalie and Ashley Jerrye, all of DeRidder; one stepdaughter, Mildred L. Mitchell of Natchez; two step-granddaughters, Pat Washington and husband, Percy, of Natchez and Carol Barkley of Hansen Hills, Calif.; one step-grandson, James A. Mitchell of Natchez; one goddaughter, Audrey Fowler Martin of Lafayette, La.; a very special friend and caretaker, Annie Wilson and her daughter, Jacqueline Crumb and Glenda Turner; and other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be deacons of King Solomon Baptist Church.
