NATCHEZ — Memorial services for Jere Lee “Shug” Ferrill, 78, of Natchez, who died Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22, 2012, at Natchez Regional Medical Center will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Church.
Visitation will be from noon until service time Wednesday at the church.
At his own request, his ashes will be sprinkled into the Mississippi River by his family at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Legacy Funeral Services in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Shug, as everyone knew him, was born April 3, 1934, in Mobile, Ala., the second son of Charles Albert Ferrill Sr. and Evelyn Richardson Ferrill. They moved to Natchez March 1, 1949, and Shug has lived in Natchez ever since.
He was in the home building business for years, as well as the hotel and restaurant businesses.
Shug was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Charles A. Ferrill Jr.
Survivors include three children, Peggy Ferrill Wicker of Marietta, Ga., Jere Lee Ferrill Jr. and wife, Lisa, of Castle Rock, Colo., and Tere Lee Ferrill of Natchez; five granddaughters, Tamar Polk Moon and husband, Tyler, of Woodstock, Ga., Katherine Polk Walker of Tupelo, Ashley Nicole Ferrill of Brookhaven, Danielle Lee Ferrill of Castle Rock and Lorianne Wicker Thayer and husband, Scott, of Marietta; six great-grandchildren who all loved him very much; and a number of nieces and nephews.
