NATCHEZ — Mayor Butch Brown said the City of Natchez is actively working with a developer to bring a new health-care related industry to Natchez.
Brown declined to comment on the specifics of the industry because of a confidentiality agreement, but he said he hopes to make an announcement at the Natchez Board of Aldermen’s Jan. 8 meeting.
Brown described the industry as “non-smokestack and very clean,” and said the developer will be building a state-of-the-art facility in the city.
“We don’t have to put up money to get them here or build levees or anything for them,” he said. “We’re just being proactive in helping get the plans together and get them approved.”
Natchez Inc., Brown said, is not involved in the recruitment of the industry. He said he was personally approached by the developer, who Brown said he has known for 45 years, to discuss plans for the development.
Brown said he believes the new industry will bring less than 100 jobs.
