MEADVILLE — Not regulation nor two 10-minute overtimes could decide the outcome of Friday night’s battle between the Cathedral Lady Green Wave and the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs with the MHSAA Division 7-1A/2A/3A championship on the line.
It took penalty kicks to determine which team would be hosting a first-round playoff game next Tuesday and which one would be on the road. In the end, Franklin County ended up victorious by a score of 3-2 after making four penalty kicks to Cathedral’s two.
“We worked hard,” Cathedral head coach Kate Ellard said.
Franklin County scored both of its regulation goals in the first half and both were made by S. Middleton. Mary Frances Sessions had a goal for Cathedral in the first half.
Pepper Taylor’s goal in the second half tied the score at 2-2, and that score would stand all the way to the penalty kick shootout.
Franklin County finished in first place at 5-1 and will be at home for the first round of the Class 1A/2A/3A South State Playoffs. Cathedral ended up 4-2 and will play at Sacred Heart Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
