Wilkinson County girls top Jefferson Co.

WOODVILLE — Linensia Palmer led Wilkinson County with a game-high 31 points and Freddrika Scott chipped in with 20 points as the Lady Wildcats used a big second half to defeat the Jefferson County Lady Tigers 81-59 Friday night in an MHSAA Region 7-3A game.
Wilkinson County played solid defense in the first quarter en route to a 14-7 lead at the end of the quarter. Jefferson County answered by outscoring Wilkinson County 20-12 in the second quarter for a 27-26 halftime lead.
Then the Lady Wildcats went on an offensive explosion in the second half. They scored 28 points in the third quarter and 27 in the fourth quarter, while the Lady Tigers managed just 16 points in each quarter.
Malesia Slack also finished in double figures for the Lady Wildcats with 13 points. The Lady Tigers were led by Keionne January with 17 points and Diamond Gaines added 10 points.
Jefferson County (13-9, 1-3) plays host to Franklin County next Tuesday night. Wilkinson County (7-14, 2-2) hosts Prentiss next Tuesday night.
Ferriday 66, Lakeside 60
SIBLEY, La. — Jada Griggs scored a game-high 29 points and Sha’Keria Kelly had 12 points as the Ferriday Lady Trojans rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to defeat the Lakeside Lady Warriors in LHSAA District 2-2A play Friday night.
It looked like Lakeside was well on its way to a blowout win after dominating Ferriday when the Lady Warriors had the ball in the first half. Lakeside led the Lady Trojans 20-15 after one quarter of play and 39-28 at halftime.
But Ferriday played more aggressive defense in the second half and that led to plenty of easy transition baskets. The Lady Trojans outscored the Lady Warriors 17-7 in the third quarter to trail 46-45 and won the game with a 21-14 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Jaz Davis added 10 points for Ferriday (6-13, 2-1). The Lady Trojans play at Jonesboro-Hodge Tuesday night.
Copiah Academy 61,Trinity Episcopal 11
GALLMAN — Taylor Wilson scored 17 points and Kelly Byrd finished with nine points as the Copiah Academy Lady Colonels defeated the Trinity Episcopal Lady Saints Friday night.
Copiah Academy jumped out to a 20-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and once halftime arrived, the Lady Colonels had a commanding 50-4 advantage.
Marty Lewis led the Lady Saints with six points. Trinity Episcopal (0-14) plays at Columbia Academy Tuesday night.
Avoyelles 55, Vidalia 23
MOREAUVILLE, La. — Kourtney McGhee almost outscored Vidalia by herself as she ended up with 19 points to lead the Avoyelles Lady Mustangs past the Lady Vikings Friday night in LHSAA District 3-3A action.
Avoyelles dominated Vidalia in the first quarter on both ends of the court. By the time that quarter was over, the Lady Mustangs led the Lady Vikings 22-6 and the rout was on.
Taylor Tennessee led Vidalia (0-3 in district) with six points. The Lady Vikings will be at home Tuesday night when they host Marksville.
