WCCA boys drop close home contest

WOODVILLE — Devin Choate led Oak Forest Academy with a game-high 23 points and the Yellow Jackets needed all of them as they held on for a 41-37 win over the Wilkinson County Christian Academy Rams Monday night.
WCCA could have folded the tent after being outscored by Oak Forest 14-7 in the second quarter to go in halftime trailing the Yellow Jackets 22-13. But the Rams responded with a 14-8 advantage in the third quarter to make it a 30-27 game.
But the Yellow Jackets managed to keep the Rams at bay with 11 points in the fourth quarter to WCCA’s 10 points.
The Rams were led by Dra’ Tolliver with 12 points and Hayden Patterson added 10 points.
WCCA (6-11 overall, 6-1 in MAIS District 6-A) plays at Chamberlain-Hunt Academy Thursday night in the district finale.
Oak Forest girls 45, WCCA 23
Lindsey Neal scored 14 points to lead a balanced scoring attack for the Oak Forest Academy Lady Yellow Jackets as they defeated the Wilkinson County Christian Academy Lady Rams Monday night.
Payton Simmons and Saylor Wynn had nine points each and Hannah Neal chipped in with seven points for Oak Forest, which turned a close game after one quarter of play into a blowout after outscoring WCCA 19-6 in the second quarter for a 25-11 halftime lead.
WCCA was led by Tamera Bateaste with 10 points while Brandi Norwood added five points and Lauren DeJean scored four points. The Lady Rams (records not available) don’t play again until next week at the MAIS District 6-A Tournament at Tallulah Academy.
Tensas Academy swept by Jackson Victors
ST. JOSEPH, La. — Both of Tensas Academy’s varsity basketball teams lost to the Jackson Victors, which are home school teams, Monday night.
The Tensas Academy Lady Chiefs lost 41-32 and dropped to 9-14 overall. However, they are 3-2 in MAIS District 6-A after last Friday night’s 30-25 win over WCCA.
The Tensas Academy Chiefs came up short in a 53-39 setback. They fell to 0-7 in district play after losing to WCCA 49-33 last Friday night.
Tensas Academy next plays on Thursday night at Tallulah Academy in its regular-season finale.
