NATCHEZ — The Natchez Downtown Development Association is hoping Mardi Gras revelers bring their masks, beads and pocketbooks to the organization’s annual gala fundraiser.
The NDDA Mardi Gras Masquerade Gala will be from 5:30 until 9 p.m. on Fat Tuesday Feb. 12 at the Prentiss Club.
The gala is the organization’s largest fundraiser of the year. NDDA member Kathy Traina said all of the proceeds go directly toward the organization’s efforts to promote downtown Natchez.
Traina said NDDA focuses on downtown development but wants to support all Natchez businesses by keeping shoppers in town.
“And we feel one of the biggest attractions in town, outside of the antebellum homes, is the downtown area,” she said. “Our goal is to help increase the business so we will have more merchants that come downtown because people are shopping downtown, and people aren’t going outside (of Natchez) to spend their money.”
An array of silent auction items will be available for bid from 5:30 until 8, including a $100 gift certificate to Magnolia Bluffs Casino’s Cypress Mill Italian steakhouse and $100 in chips or casino credit, a lamp from Dianne’s Frame Shop, four rounds of golf at Beau Pré, a photo of Arlington historic home and other items.
Dress for the gala is semi-formal, and gala goers are encouraged to wear masks. Masks will be available for purchase at the door.
The Court Jesters will play from 7 until 9. A cash bar and hors d’oeuvres will be available.
Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.
Advance tickets can be purchased at Toby Salon, Smith Printing, Melancon Antiques, Pampered Sole, Katie’s Ladies, Dianne’s Frame Shop, Mississippi Gold, Mrs. Holder’s Antiques and Vintage Retreat.
Advance tickets, which can be picked up at the door, can also be reserved by calling 601-238-8325.
