Area baseball teams see cancellations

VIDALIA — Severe thunderstorms and heavy rain Thursday forced local and area baseball and softball games to be postponed or canceled.
Vidalia’s junior varsity and varsity baseball teams were scheduled to host Harrisonburg in its season and home opener, but those games were canceled. Vikings head coach Kale Davis said he didn’t know if the games will be played at a later date. The Vikings will play at the Delhi Charter/Oak Grove Tournament on Saturday.
Vidalia’s JV and varsity softball teams’ home games against Block High School were postponed. Lady Vikings head coach Gary Parnham Jr. said the games will be made up, though a makeup date has yet to be determined.
The Lady Vikings will be playing at the Neville Tournament in Monroe, La., today and Saturday. The Lady Bears will next play at the Menard Tournament today and Saturday.
Monterey’s varsity softball game against Georgetown were postponed until 4 p.m. Monday. Monterey will participate in the Pineville/Menard Tournament today and Saturday.
Centreville Academy was set to start its season on the road at Copiah Academy, but the junior varsity and varsity games were postponed. Tigers head coach Jason Horne said he did not know when the games will be made up. Centreville will now begin the 2013 season at 6 p.m. Tuesday at home against Trinity Episcopal.
