CHOCTAW — Kiarra Sykes led Franklin County with nine points, and Latorya Griffin had seven points, but it was not enough as the Lady Bulldogs lost to the Collins Lady Tigers 36-29 Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the MHSAA Class 3A South State Tournament being hosted at Choctaw Central High School.
Franklin County, the No. 2 seed out of Region 7-3A, held its own against Region 8-3A champion Collins and trailed by just three points, 11-8, at the end of the first quarter. Then the Lady Bulldogs went cold from the field in the second quarter and were outscored 10-3 to go into halftime trailing the Lady Tigers 21-11. Franklin County tried to rally in the fourth quarter, but an 11-point deficit after three quarters of play was too deep of a hole to get out of.
Collins was led by Shaniqua Magee with a game-high 11 points and Crystal Flowers added seven points.
Franklin County ended its season with a 13-9 overall record.
