NATCHEZ — Services for Eddie Jackson, 93, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at New Zion Baptist Church No. 1 with the Rev. Earnest Ford Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Bateaste Memorial Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.
Mr. Jackson was born April 7, 1919, in Ferriday, the son of the Rev. Pete Jackson and Patsy Crockett Jackson. He was a 1939 graduate of Brumfield High School and worked at Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company.
Mr. Jackson served as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent, church clerk for 40 years from 1948 to 1988 and was vice president of the church choir.
He was also a member of the King David Lodge since 1948 and served as worshipful master; an honorary member of King David Lodge No. 2; deputy grandmaster of M.W. King David Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M. of the State of Mississippi Inc.; member of E.L. Fox Council of Inspector General of the 33rd and last degree of the State of Mississippi; served in the U.S. Army from Sept. 17, 1942, until Feb. 18, 1946; served in World War II where he received his Victory Medal; and served on the Senior Citizen Community Board for the Multipurpose Center.
Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Anthony Jackson; four brothers, Neil, Rance and Samuel Crockett and William Jackson; and one sister, Irelin Jackson.
Survivors include his lovely wife of 60 years, Edith Jackson; one granddaughter, Lakira Johnson; four sisters-in-law, Edna McCoy and husband, Lee, Mary Cameron, Jessie Jackson and Josephine Gamble, all of Natchez; five brothers-in-law, Earl Turner of Natchez, Robert King and wife, Julia, of Atlanta, Willie Turner and wife, Pat, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Melvin Knight and James Knight and wife, Melinda, all of Vidalia; two nephews, Luther Knight and wife, Alfredia, and the Rev. Melvin Jackson and wife, Pastor Queen; one niece, Pat Jackson; five great-nephews, Eric Knight and wife, Tricia, Garrett Knight, Johnny Yearby Jr. and Greg Jones and wife, Faye, all of Natchez, and Robert Allen Kelly and wife, Donna, of Atlanta; five great-nieces, Edith Burns and Latasha Shorts and husband, Kendall, all of Ferriday, Carmen Knight and Vernica Yearby of Atlanta and Ameida Thomas of Vidalia; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Stanley Burn Jr., Eric Knight, Garrett Knight, Gregory Jones, Robert Allen Kelly and Dolvin Kelly.
