VIDALIA — Funeral services for Gary Michael Hawkes, 59, of Vidalia, who died Thursday, March 21, 2013, at University Medical Center in Jackson, will be noon today at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Vidalia with the Rev. George Pookkattu officiating.

Burial will follow at Acme Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Vidalia.

Mr. Hawkes was born in Ferriday, to Cleave Hawkes, Jr. and Elsie Bourgeois Hawkes.  He was a devout member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

He was retired from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and was a hard-working family man.  Most local merchants in this area knew him and enjoyed his laughter and friendship. He had a gift of gab, especially over a cup of coffee.

Mr. Hawkes was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Margaret Pecanty Hawkes; son, Jason Michael Hawkes and wife, Leanne, of Chalmette, La.; grandchildren Mason and Zoe; three sisters, Cathy Metcalf, Charlette Watson and Kay Hawkes, all of Vidalia; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
