Prep softball: Monterey stuns Oak Hill 3-2

ELMER, La. — Bailey New hit a two-run home run for Monterey in the top of the fifth inning as the Lady Wolves stunned the Oak Hill Lady Rams 3-2 Tuesday afternoon in a pivotal LHSAA District 4-B game for both teams.
Paige Bryan was the winning pitcher as she gave up two runs, none of them earned, on four hits and one walk and she struck out two batters. Oak Hill scored both of its runs in the bottom of the second inning after Monterey scored one run in the top of the second.
The Lady Wolves won the game despite committing five errors in the game, most of which occurred in the second inning.
With the win, the Lady Wolves are now a half-game up on the Lady Rams in the district standings at 6-2. Oak Hill is at 5-2 with one district game to play.
Monterey (15-9) next plays at 4 p.m. Friday at Georgetown.
West Lincoln 9, Cathedral 2
BROOKHAVEN — Micah Redd allowed two runs on eight hits in seven innings as the West Lincoln Lady Bears defeated the Cathedral Lady Green Wave Tuesday afternoon in an MHSAA Region 7-1A game.
West Lincoln scored all of its runs in the first four innings — three in the bottom of the first, three in the bottom of the second, two in the bottom of the third and one in the bottom of the fourth. Karley Smith and Brianna Fauver each had a double for the Lady Bears.
Cathedral scored both of its runs in the top of the third inning. MacKenzie Watts went 3-for-4 to lead the Lady Green Wave at the plate. Mollie Devening went the distance and allowed five earned runs on 12 hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
Cathedral (9-6, 1-2) next plays at 6 p.m. Thursday at Bogue Chitto.
